Another great shot of the London Addixion products taken by Joana Carreira from Lisbon (see her fashion/hair/beauty blog here) and complete with matching London Addixion canvas bag that I haven’t seen before and it is awesome:

London Addixion, L'Oreal, Vogue, Hair, Beauty,

I came across this article in the Vogue Beauty Blog about the London Addixion range via twitter. It was my first view of the actually ‘real’ bottles and they’re great, even better than I imagined, and also it all seemed to go down well with the critics… ‘Rule Britannia’!

Oh and you’ve got to love the complimentary biscuit version of one of the designs, little random maybe but then again why ever not, who doesn’t like a biscuit?!

I have almost an obsession with words and their definitions, I have to understand the basics before I can begin to start doing anything else so…

BEAUTY: is the combination of qualities that give pleasure to the senses, especially the sight | also the combination of qualities that pleases the intellect or moral sense| is the feature that is most effective, gratifying or telling | an outstanding example of its kind | an advantageous feature

But I’m curious how beauty is very hard to define and understand, especially how it seems to be assessed more by whether is succeeds in its initial intended purpose and that depends on the context in which you use the word.

FORM: the appearance of something – shape, configuration, structure | the organisation of elements, arrangement of parts, placement and relationship of basic lines/colours | visual characteristic – its unique identity, what makes it different from others

I need to consider things like symmetry, geometry, golden section, ratios and proportions, order of part and general overall visual balance… and how they affect one’s judgment of beauty in form.

PERCEPTION: the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses
• the state of being or process of becoming aware of something in such a way
• a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something; a mental impression
• intuitive understanding and insight

‘What if…’ – Context Essence

Instead of focusing too closely to my context essay topic as a basis for the ‘what if…’ I realise it should be thinking more about its essence, and use that as a starting point from which to develop another project.

Essentially underneath you could say it is all about:

perception of beauty, particularly in relation to natural vs enhanced concepts of beauty

The most prominent issue within my context and general discussion about the topic is people’s perception of beauty:

How does one person perceive something to be more beautiful than the another??

It would be interesting to find out what people’s perception resolve around and try some simple initial experiments about that first and see what I find…

I also need to move away from the topic of the beautiful body to elements of beauty in relation to form instead as a way to refocus my attention back on design.

I think I’ll be looking at basic forms first like shape/size/colour and then move on to composition such as proportion/harmony/balance but only within 2D design (I need some boundaries otherwise I see myself getting carried away and lost!)
